10 Best Scrap Dealers in Maharashtra for Bulk Iron Scrap Buying
Looking for the best scrap dealer in Maharashtra for 10 MT, 20 MT, 50 MT or more of iron and steel scrap? This guide compares the strongest bulk buyers, recyclers and specialist dealers across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Jalna, Raigad and the rest of the state, and tells you plainly which ones are not right for your material.
This is not a list of kabadiwalas. If you have ten metric tonnes of iron or steel scrap sitting in a yard, a factory or a demolition site, you are not looking for someone with a handcart. You are selling a commercial commodity load worth several lakh rupees, and the buyer you pick should be judged the way you would judge any other supplier: on grade knowledge, weighing transparency, freight handling, payment terms and whether they can actually absorb the quantity.
The stakes scale fast. A difference of ₹500 per tonne is ₹10,000 on a 20 MT load and ₹25,000 on 50 MT. A ₹2,000/MT difference on 50 MT is a lakh. And yet most bulk sellers still choose a buyer by asking three people for a rate on WhatsApp and picking the biggest number, which is exactly how a higher quote turns into a lower payout once freight, deductions and delayed payment are counted.
Below are ten scrap buyers and recyclers operating across Maharashtra, ranked for a specific requirement: bulk ferrous, 10 MT and up. Not every name on this list is a bulk iron buyer, and we say so plainly where that is the case, because sending a 30 MT HMS load to a specialty alloy trader wastes everybody’s day. For a straightforward bulk iron enquiry, Steel Baba and SK Steels are the two we would call first.
Before you read on. Scrap rates, minimum quantities, accepted grades and service areas change constantly. Appearing on this list does not mean a company will accept your particular load. Third-party details here come from publicly available business listings and company websites and are given for reference only. Confirm current buying requirements, rate basis, freight responsibility and payment terms directly before a truck leaves your premises.

1. Steel Baba – Best Overall for Bulk Iron Scrap in Maharashtra
🥇 MOST RECOMMENDED · BULK FERROUS · 10+ MT
Buys: HMS 1 and 2 · MS scrap · iron punching scrap · end-cutting and CR busheling · rolling scrap · MS sheet and plant cutting · structural steel · plate · machinery scrap · demolition steel · cast iron · turnings
Covers: Mumbai · Navi Mumbai · Pune · Jalna · all of Raigad · Thane · Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and the Marathwada belt
Terms: Certified weighbridge slip · grading called at the gate · GST invoice · payment inside 48 hours
Steel Baba is our first recommendation for one reason above all others: it treats bulk ferrous as its actual business rather than as one line in a general recycling menu. That distinction matters more than it sounds. A generalist recycler quoting on 25 MT of mixed industrial iron is pricing a category. A ferrous buyer is pricing your specific material against what a furnace will pay for it this week.
What that looks like in practice is a quote built from grade upward. HMS 1 and HMS 2 are priced separately rather than blended. Iron punching scrap, which comes off press shops as small, dense, uniform mild steel with no rust or mixed metal, carries a premium over yard-collected material because a furnace can charge it without pre-processing. End-cutting and CR busheling are treated as prepared grades. Turnings and oily swarf are priced honestly at the bottom rather than quietly used to drag the average down. If your load is genuinely mixed, you get told what sorting would be worth before you dispatch rather than after somebody has weighed it.
Statewide coverage, not one yard
Collection runs across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Jalna and the whole of Raigad, which is the practical difference between a buyer who can serve a Chakan factory one week and a Mahad plant shutdown the next. That geographic spread also means the advice you get is not automatically self-serving. A seller in Jalna asking whether to truck material to Mumbai should be told the honest answer, which right now is usually no, because the domestic gap between the two markets has narrowed to a point where freight eats it.
That net-realisation approach runs through everything. It is the difference between comparing quoted rates and comparing what actually lands in your account, and it is the single most valuable habit a bulk seller can develop. Our city guides work the same way, whether you are looking at the Pune market, Jalna or Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, and the daily grade-wise numbers sit on the iron scrap rate today board.
Best suited to
Factories generating scrap monthly. Contractors demobilising off a site. Demolition companies with structural steel. Stockholders clearing dead inventory. Aggregators consolidating from smaller collectors. Anyone with 10 MT or more who wants the load graded properly instead of bought as one heap.
2. SK Steels – The Second Quote Every Bulk Seller Should Get
🥈 STRONGLY RECOMMENDED · BULK IRON SCRAP
Buys: Iron and steel scrap, prepared and heavy grades
Covers: Mumbai · Navi Mumbai · Pune · Jalna · all of Raigad
SK Steels buys iron scrap across the same Maharashtra footprint, and the reason it sits at number two rather than further down is that a serious bulk seller should never work off a single quote. Two offers on identical material is the cheapest negotiating leverage available anywhere in this trade, and it costs one phone call.
The spread between a first offer and a best offer on the same load routinely runs ₹1 to ₹2 per kilo. On 25 MT that is ₹25,000 to ₹50,000 for the effort of making a second call. Sellers who skip this step are not being efficient, they are paying a convenience fee they never agreed to.
When you call, confirm the same six things you would confirm with anybody: which grades they are taking that week, current rate and whether it is ex-yard or delivered, who arranges and pays for transport, who handles loading, which weighbridge decides the final quantity, and when payment lands. Buying appetite shifts with mill offtake, so a yard that was aggressive on heavy melting last month may be focused on prepared grades this month.
3. Tradewell Ferromet – Specialty Alloy Steel, Not Bulk HMS
Tradewell Ferromet Private Limited operates from Bhagirathi Bhavan, Panjrapole Lane, Girgaon, Mumbai 400004, and by its own account came into existence in 2005. It trades, imports and recycles industrial metal scrap across stainless steel, duplex steel, alloy steel, tool steel, carbon steel and high nickel alloys, with listings covering EN grade scraps, casting grade scraps, SMO 254, Hastelloy C22 and ferro alloys, sourced from the USA, Canada, Europe, the UK, Germany, the Far East and the Gulf.
Be clear about what that means for you. This is a specialty and alloy steel house, not a bulk heavy-melting yard, and its published minimum order quantities run in kilograms rather than tonnes. If your 15 MT is ordinary HMS or MS scrap, this is the wrong first call. If your material includes stainless, duplex, tool steel, high-speed steel or nickel alloys pulled out of a process plant or a machine shop, it becomes genuinely interesting, because a specialist will identify and pay for grades a general ferrous yard would price as plain iron.
Best for: alloy and stainless grades, specialty steel stock lots, and mixed industrial material where somebody needs to tell 304 from 316 from mild steel.
4. Alok Scrap Traders – Navi Mumbai and the MMR
Listed around the Vashi and APMC market area of Navi Mumbai and categorised as a scrap metal dealer, Alok Scrap Traders is relevant if your material sits in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and short freight is your main lever. That catchment covers Vashi, Turbhe, Koper Khairane, the TTC Industrial Area, Taloja, Panvel and the Thane approach.
Location is worth real money here, and Navi Mumbai is a specific case worth understanding. Sorted industrial grades in Navi Mumbai run a substantial premium over bulk HMS in Mumbai proper, because TTC and Taloja buyers want clean single-grade material and will pay for it. Bulk HMS behaves the opposite way. Getting that the wrong way round on a 10-tonne load of end-cutting costs around ₹12,000, which is more than the freight either way.
Before you dispatch: confirm the current minimum quantity and whether they are actively buying your grade at 10+ MT, since directory categories are broader than actual buying policy.
5. SPAS Recycling – Compliance-Led Corporate Recycling
SPAS Recycling positions itself as a waste management and recycling business rather than a scrap trader, covering e-waste, metals, batteries, cable and hazardous waste, with collection infrastructure listed in Mumbai and Pune. That makes it a different proposition from a ferrous yard.
Where it earns its place is on compliance. If you are a corporate or MNC site disposing of mixed material and your procurement or EHS team needs documented, auditable recycling with proper chain of custody, an organised recycler is often the right answer even at a slightly softer rate. Factory clearances, asset disposal and anything mixing metal with electronics, cable or batteries fit that description.
What it is not is an automatic best-payer for 30 MT of clean HMS. If your material is straightforward iron, get a diversified recycler’s number and compare it honestly against a dedicated ferrous buyer rather than assuming the organised option pays more.
6. ScrapDeal Recycling – Pune Collection Network
ScrapDeal operates in Pune as an organised scrap collection and recycling service, handling paper, plastic, metals, e-waste, tyres and glass, with electronic weighing and both industrial and residential collection.
Pune’s industrial base makes this worth a call if you are in the belt: Bhosari, Chakan, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Talawade, Ranjangaon, Talegaon, Hadapsar and the surrounding MIDC areas. Worth knowing that Kudalwadi and Chikhali, rather than Bhosari, is where most of Pune district’s scrap volume actually ends up, which shapes where buyers are strongest.
If your requirement is strictly 10+ MT of clean iron, ask explicitly for a bulk ferrous quotation rather than accepting a general collection quote, because those are two different pricing exercises.
7. Crapbin Recycling Pvt Ltd – Mixed Corporate Streams
Crapbin Recycling markets corporate and bulk recycling services in Mumbai, accepting iron and steel alongside other metals, e-waste, appliances and general corporate scrap, with stated transparency on weighing, pickup and payment.
The clearest case for using them is a mixed clearance. If you have 20 MT that is part structural steel, part IT assets, part office equipment and part cabling, a single organised buyer who can price all of it and give you one set of documentation is worth more than the theoretical maximum you might squeeze from splitting the load across four specialists. If you have 20 MT of nothing but HMS, that logic reverses.
8. Patel Demolition – Structural and Dismantling Steel
Based in the Palghar area and categorised primarily as a demolition contractor, Patel Demolition is a different animal from a scrap dealer, and that is precisely the point. Where a trader buys material after somebody else has brought it down, a demolition specialist handles the whole clearance: dismantling, cutting, segregation and removal.
That fits building and factory demolition, warehouse dismantling, industrial shutdowns, machinery removal and structural steel recovery. On those jobs the commercial structure is often a buyout of the standing structure rather than a per-tonne scrap rate, which is a completely different negotiation.
One thing to settle first on any demolition job: who owns the recovered steel. On contracted work, title to removed material is frequently retained by the client, and plenty of contractors only discover that at handover. Read the clause at mobilisation, and note the value gap you are protecting – clean structural steel and plate above 6mm sits near the top of the ferrous band, while reinforcement bar chipped out of concrete sits several rupees a kilo lower.
9. Rishi Old Paper & Metal Mart – Mumbai Local Option
An established Mumbai scrap business listed around Andheri West, dealing in paper and metal scrap. For local Mumbai commercial quantities it is a legitimate option, and for smaller-to-medium lots it may well be the most convenient one.
For a 10+ MT industrial requirement, treat it as a call to make rather than a default. Ask directly whether they currently buy at that volume, which iron grades, whether pickup is arranged, whether the rate is ex-yard or delivered, who pays loading, and what deductions apply. Those six answers will tell you within two minutes whether it is worth pursuing.
10. Mukesh Metal Corporation – Non-Ferrous Specialist
Established in 1966 and operating from 134 C.P. Tank Road, opposite Madhav Baug Temple, Mumbai 400004, Mukesh Metal Corporation trades non-ferrous metals including aluminium, brass, copper, lead, nickel, tin and zinc, with stainless steel also listed.
Nearly sixty years in the trade counts for something, but read the specialisation carefully. This is a non-ferrous house. For pure bulk iron scrap it is not the right call. Where it becomes relevant is when a plant clearance or machinery breakdown throws up meaningful quantities of copper windings, brass fittings, aluminium sections or nickel alloys alongside the steel, because those grades are worth many times ferrous per kilo and a ferrous-only yard has no incentive to identify them properly.
One practical caution, and it comes from the company’s own published notice rather than from us: Mukesh Metal Corporation has issued a public warning about individuals falsely presenting themselves as its representatives and soliciting payments into third-party bank accounts. If you deal with them, deal through the company’s own verified contact channels and its stated office address. That advice generalises, incidentally. In any bulk metal transaction, verify who you are actually paying or being paid by before money moves.
Why the Highest Rate Is Often the Lower Payout
This is the single most expensive mistake in bulk scrap selling, so here it is with numbers. You have 30 MT of MS scrap.
| Buyer A (distant) | Buyer B (local) | |
|---|---|---|
| Quoted rate per MT | ₹35,000 | ₹34,500 |
| Gross value on 30 MT | ₹10,50,000 | ₹10,35,000 |
| Freight and tolls | −₹30,000 | −₹9,000 |
| Loading and handling | −₹4,500 | −₹4,500 |
| Net realisation | ₹10,15,500 | ₹10,21,500 |
The buyer quoting ₹500 less per tonne pays you ₹6,000 more. And that is before payment timing enters the picture. A rate that is ₹1,000/MT higher but settles in 30 days instead of 48 hours is not obviously better, particularly if you are funding the next month’s operations out of it.
The formula to run on every enquiry is simple enough to do on a phone:
Net realisation = gross scrap value − freight − loading − unloading − grade and moisture deductions − any other agreed charges
Freight across the state is the variable that moves it most. As a working figure, a ten-tonne road move within the Mumbai–Pune–Jalna triangle has been costing in the region of ₹9,000 to ₹13,000, or roughly ₹0.90 to ₹1.30 a kilo off whatever you were quoted, though the actual number depends on route, vehicle type, tolls and fuel at the time. From the Konkan coast it is considerably higher. Get a live transporter quote rather than working from a rule of thumb. Our freight guide for Maharashtra breaks that down route by route.
What Counts as Bulk Iron Scrap
Describing everything as “iron” is how sellers get paid the lowest grade in the pile. Here is what a bulk ferrous buyer is actually distinguishing between, roughly from strongest to weakest.
Iron punching scrap comes off press and stamping operations as small, dense, uniform mild steel, free of rust and mixed metal. Furnaces charge it directly, which is why it carries a premium of several thousand rupees a tonne over yard material.
End-cutting and CR busheling are prepared grades with consistent chemistry, among the fastest-moving material in any market. MS sheet and plant cutting and rolling scrap sit close behind, both valued because they melt predictably.
HMS 1 is heavy melting scrap of at least 80% steel in sections over 6mm: thick plate, heavy structural, industrial components, minimal rust. HMS 2 is thinner gauge and more mixed. The gap between them is real money and the boundary is exactly where reclassification disputes happen at unloading, so it is worth knowing the thickness and profile criteria before you grade a load. Steel grade specifications are published by the Bureau of Indian Standards, so if a yard downgrades your material you are entitled to ask which specification they are applying.
Structural steel covers I-beams, channels, angles, columns and plate. Machinery and fabrication scrap comes off shop floors and dismantled plant. Demolition steel is recovered from buildings and industrial structures and prices below clean material because of scale and contamination. Cast iron splits into industrial grade, meaning pump bodies, machine bases and engine blocks, and low-grade foundry material which is the most volatile category on the board.
At the bottom sit turnings, borings and oily swarf, discounted because they burn poorly and carry moisture, and mixed unsorted material, which is priced at close to whatever the worst thing in the heap is. That last point is worth internalising: a buyer who cannot see what proportion is what will not gamble, so mixing good material into a general pile actively destroys value.
Why 10 MT Changes the Negotiation Entirely
Below roughly a tonne, you are a collection job. The buyer is absorbing sorting, handling and transport on your behalf, and the ₹5 to ₹7 a kilo gap between a pickup quote and the wholesale baseline is the honest cost of that service rather than anybody cheating you.
At 10 MT and above, four things change at once. You become worth competing for, so buyers who would not return a call for 500 kg will quote. Freight economics work, because a full truck spreads the cost across enough tonnes to make distance a real option rather than a theoretical one. Grade separation starts paying, since splitting a load into three graded piles is worth thousands rather than hundreds. And you gain access to buyers supplying mills directly rather than aggregators taking a margin in the middle.
You also gain leverage you should actually use. A buyer who wants your 40 MT this month and hopes to want it again next month behaves very differently from one buying a one-off heap. Regular monthly generation is a commercial relationship, and it should be priced as one.
How to Ask for a Quote That Gets You a Real Number
Sending “iron scrap hai, rate batao” gets you a defensive lowball, because the buyer is pricing his own uncertainty. Send this instead and you will get a firm number the same day:
- Material and grade – HMS 1, HMS 2, MS, punching, end-cutting, structural, mixed
- Approximate quantity – 20 MT, 50 MT, or monthly generation if it is recurring
- Exact location – town and industrial area, not just the district
- Condition – sorted or mixed, dry or stored outdoors, any contamination you know about
- Five to ten photographs – wide shots, close-ups and the loading area
- Loading – available on site or required from the buyer
- Dispatch window – immediate, within a week, or tied to a shutdown date
Then ask for the answer in the same structured form: rate per MT, whether it is ex-yard or delivered, GST treatment, who pays freight, who pays loading, which weighbridge governs, what deductions apply, and when payment lands. Anything less than that is not a quotation, it is a conversation starter.
Two further habits are worth building. Photograph the load before it leaves, which settles almost every grading argument that surfaces later at a gate two hundred kilometres away. And get your own certified weighbridge slip rather than relying on the buyer’s bridge, because commercial weighbridges must be verified and stamped under the Legal Metrology Act, administered by the Department of Consumer Affairs, and a lapsed certificate is not something you are obliged to weigh on. The mechanics of weighbridge disputes are worth understanding before you need them.
Documentation and GST on Bulk Scrap
At bulk volumes the paperwork stops being optional. Depending on the transaction you should expect to handle a GST invoice, a delivery challan, an e-way bill where applicable, the weighbridge slip, a purchase order, vehicle details and payment records. Iron and steel scrap generally falls under HSN 7204, and the exact treatment should be confirmed for your specific transaction and registration status.
The commercial point most sellers miss: a GST-registered buyer reclaims the input credit, which is precisely why he can afford to pay more for material arriving with clean documentation than for identical steel arriving without it. That gap is arithmetic, not goodwill. If you hold a GSTIN, insist on proper invoicing and price accordingly. If you do not, understand that you are choosing a smaller pool of buyers and a lower rate. Our GST guide for Maharashtra scrap sellers covers the liability side, though for recurring commercial volumes your own accountant should confirm the position.
And ask one question before anything moves: is the quoted rate inclusive or exclusive of GST? Get the answer in writing. It is the most common source of disputes in this trade and the easiest one to prevent.
Red Flags Worth Walking Away From
The rate changes after loading. The buyer will not explain his deduction policy before dispatch. The opening quote is conspicuously above everyone else’s, which is a known tactic for winning the load and renegotiating once it is on his floor. Weighing arrangements stay vague. GST treatment is left unclear. There is pressure to dispatch before terms are agreed in writing. Payment timing cannot be stated plainly.
Any one of these on a 500 kg sale is an annoyance. On 40 MT it is a serious commercial exposure, and the correct response is to stop and get a second quote rather than to hope. For sellers wanting an independent read on the trade, the Material Recycling Association of India is the recognised industry body and a reasonable place to sanity-check who is genuinely established in organised recycling.
Looking for a Scrap Dealer Near Me in Maharashtra?
For a few hundred kilos, nearest is almost always best and there is nothing more to think about. For 10 MT and above, the nearest buyer is frequently not the best buyer, and treating proximity as the deciding factor is one of the more expensive habits in this trade.
The reason is that distance and rate move independently. A local yard saves you freight but may have thinner demand behind it. A buyer two hundred kilometres away may be supplying a mill directly and quoting accordingly. Neither fact tells you anything on its own. Run both through the same calculation and the answer usually becomes obvious within a minute.
| On a 50 MT load | Nearby buyer | Buyer 200 km away |
|---|---|---|
| Quoted rate per MT | ₹32,000 | ₹34,000 |
| Freight per MT | −₹300 | −₹2,000 |
| Net per MT | ₹31,700 | ₹32,000 |
| Total difference | ₹15,000 in favour of the distant buyer | |
Reverse the numbers slightly and the local buyer wins instead, which is exactly the point. So when you search for a scrap dealer near you, treat proximity as one input into net realisation rather than as the decision. And if you are collecting quotes anyway, there is no cost to including a buyer who covers your area but is not on your doorstep.
Where to Sell, Region by Region
Mumbai and Navi Mumbai
Two markets, not one, and the difference is worth real money. Mumbai is a bulk HMS market feeding re-rollers with pricing anchored to the port. Navi Mumbai is a sorted-grade market where TTC, Taloja and JNPT-linked buyers have typically paid a premium running into thousands of rupees a tonne for clean single-grade material. Sell bulk HMS in Mumbai and anything sorted across the creek. The full breakdown sits on our Mumbai and Navi Mumbai guide.
Thane
Splits into two unrelated trades. Wagle Industrial Estate produces documented engineering and press-shop material that earns the top of the range. Bhiwandi, across Narpoli, Rahnal and Pimplas, is warehousing and demolition, so lots arrive mixed and full of buried non-ferrous. Match the yard to the material. Freight to Navi Mumbai from most of the district is only ₹0.30 to ₹0.60 a kilo, so sorted material should travel and bulk should not. More in the Thane guide.
Pune
The strongest market in the state on prepared grades, purely because of buyer density around Chakan, Bhosari, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Talawade. Clean HMS 1 commands a premium here that comfortably survives freight from most of western Maharashtra. Kudalwadi and Chikhali is where the volume actually concentrates.
Jalna and Marathwada
A genuine re-rolling and TMT cluster rather than a collection point, which means local mills melt what they buy and there is real furnace demand behind the bid. For sellers across Jalna, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Parbhani, Latur, Nanded and Jalgaon, selling locally frequently nets more than trucking to Pune once freight comes off, because the gross gap on base grades has narrowed to roughly a rupee a kilo while freight runs ₹0.90 to ₹1.30.
Raigad
Uneven, and worth understanding. The Mahad MIDC belt and the Roha–Mangaon corridor sit within reach of genuine steel demand. Panvel, Kalamboli, Taloja and the JNPT catchment are effectively part of the Navi Mumbai market and should be priced as such, so do not accept a freight-discounted quote there. The coastal talukas around Alibaug, Murud and Shrivardhan are a different trade again, dominated by villa demolition and marine hardware where most of the value is non-ferrous rather than iron.
Konkan coast
Chiplun and the Lote Parshuram chemical belt generate process plant scrap, meaning reactor sections, pipework and a steady flow of stainless that routinely leaves at iron prices. Jaigad and Dighi are port locations where material moves by tender and auction rather than over the counter. Freight from this coast is punishing, so the rule is that non-ferrous and alloy travel while bulk ferrous stays local.
Nashik, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur and Ahilyanagar
Each has a local industrial base worth quoting before assuming Mumbai or Pune will pay more. For a Vidarbha seller in particular, a Nagpur buyer very often beats a Mumbai quote once six hundred kilometres of freight is deducted. The principle holds everywhere: get a local number, get a metro number, subtract the transport honestly, then decide.
The Honest Verdict
No single company pays the highest price for every load. Anyone claiming otherwise is marketing rather than advising. The best buyer for your material is a function of grade, quantity, location, freight, payment terms and what the mills are pulling that week.
But for the specific requirement this article addresses, 10 MT or more of iron and steel scrap anywhere in Maharashtra, the sequence we would actually follow is straightforward. Get a quote from Steel Baba. Get a second from SK Steels. Compare net realisation rather than headline rate. Then, if your material has a specialist angle, add one more call: Tradewell Ferromet for alloy and stainless, Mukesh Metal for significant non-ferrous content, Patel Demolition for a standing structure, or an organised recycler such as SPAS or Crapbin if your clearance is mixed and compliance documentation matters.
That takes about twenty minutes and it is the difference between selling scrap and running a properly managed industrial transaction.
📲 SELLING 10 MT OR MORE? GET A FIRM NUMBER TODAY
Graded at the gate. Weighed straight. Paid in 24 to 48 hours.
Send the grade, rough tonnage, location and a few photographs, and you get a firm price the same day rather than a range that shrinks when the truck arrives. Certified weighbridge slip, grading called in front of you, proper GST invoice, payment inside 48 hours. No commission agent taking a slice on the way through. Buying across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Jalna and all of Raigad. Factory clearances, plant shutdowns and demolition lots handled end to end, and if you would net more selling closer to home we will tell you that instead of taking your load.
Frequently Asked Questions
For 10 MT and above of iron or steel scrap, Steel Baba is our first recommendation, reachable on +91 70201 82128, with buying across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Jalna and all of Raigad. SK Steels on +91 75079 24422 covers the same footprint and is the second quote every bulk seller should get. Beyond those two, the right buyer depends on your material: Tradewell Ferromet for alloy and stainless, Mukesh Metal Corporation for significant non-ferrous content, Patel Demolition for standing structures, and organised recyclers such as SPAS or Crapbin where a mixed clearance needs compliance documentation.
Dedicated bulk ferrous buyers do, but not every business listed as a scrap dealer operates at that volume. Steel Baba and SK Steels both buy at 10 MT and above across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Jalna and Raigad. Several other names commonly listed in Maharashtra are either specialists in other material, such as Tradewell Ferromet in alloy steel and Mukesh Metal Corporation in non-ferrous, or organised recyclers whose strength is mixed corporate streams rather than clean heavy melting. Always confirm current minimum quantity and accepted grades before dispatch, because directory categories are much broader than actual buying policy.
No, and at bulk volumes that assumption costs money in both directions. Work an example. A nearby buyer at ₹32,000/MT with ₹300/MT freight nets you ₹31,700. A buyer 200 km away at ₹34,000/MT with ₹2,000/MT freight nets ₹32,000. The distant buyer wins by ₹300/MT, which on 50 MT is ₹15,000. The reverse is equally common, where a ₹500 premium disappears entirely into transport. Use proximity as one input into the net realisation calculation rather than as the decision itself.
The full ferrous range trades at bulk volumes. Iron punching scrap from press and stamping operations carries a premium because furnaces charge it directly. End-cutting, CR busheling, MS sheet and plant cutting and rolling scrap are prepared grades that move fast. HMS 1 is heavy melting of at least 80% steel in sections over 6mm, while HMS 2 is thinner and more mixed. Structural steel covers beams, channels, angles and plate. Machinery scrap, demolition steel, industrial and foundry cast iron, turnings and borings and mixed unsorted material make up the rest, in roughly descending order of value.
Substantially, and 10 MT is roughly where the change happens. Below a tonne you are a collection job and the pickup quote sits ₹5 to ₹7 a kilo under the wholesale baseline, which is the genuine cost of the buyer absorbing sorting, handling and transport. At 10 MT and above you become worth competing for, freight economics work because a full truck spreads the cost, grade separation starts paying in thousands rather than hundreds, and you get access to buyers supplying mills directly rather than aggregators taking a margin.
It depends on grade rather than city. Pune is the strongest market in the state on prepared grades because of buyer density around Chakan, Bhosari, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Talawade, so clean HMS 1 there has generally commanded a premium wide enough to survive freight from much of western Maharashtra, though it is worth checking the gap on the day rather than assuming it. Mumbai is a bulk HMS market feeding re-rollers. Navi Mumbai, which is a separate market from Mumbai, pays a premium of several thousand rupees a tonne for sorted single-grade material through TTC and Taloja buyers. Match the grade to the market and calculate freight before deciding.
Yes, and it materially affects what you receive. Iron and steel scrap generally falls under HSN 7204, with the exact treatment depending on your transaction and registration status. The commercial point most sellers miss is that a GST-registered buyer reclaims the input credit, which is precisely why he can afford to pay more for material arriving with clean documentation than for identical steel without it. Always ask whether a quoted rate is inclusive or exclusive of GST and get the answer in writing before anything moves, since this is the most common source of disputes in the trade.
At bulk volumes, expect to handle a GST invoice, a delivery challan, an e-way bill where applicable, the weighbridge slip, a purchase order, material declaration, vehicle details and payment records. On contracted or demolition work you should also settle who holds title to the recovered steel before you sell it, because clients frequently retain it and contractors often discover that only at handover. For recurring commercial volumes, have your accountant confirm the applicable GST and documentation position for your specific transaction structure.
The weighbridge governs, which is why you should agree in advance which one. A bridge owned by the buyer is not a neutral instrument, and commercial weighbridges in India must be verified and stamped under the Legal Metrology Act, administered by the Department of Consumer Affairs, so a lapsed certificate is not something you are obliged to accept. Take your own certified slip before the load reaches the buyer’s gate and photograph the material before dispatch. At ₹33 a kilo, a 150 kg discrepancy on a single truck is roughly ₹5,000 gone without a word said.
Yes, both trade readily at bulk volumes, though they price differently. Factory-generated scrap arrives with known origin and consistent composition, which is worth a premium of several thousand rupees a tonne over yard-collected material. Demolition steel carries scale and contamination and prices below clean material, with structural sections and plate above 6mm at the top of that band and reinforcement bar recovered from concrete several rupees a kilo lower. On any contracted demolition, confirm in writing that the recovered steel is yours to sell before you commit it.
Yes, and at that scale you should be negotiating as a commercial supplier rather than accepting a retail scrap rate. Large consistent lots attract serious buyer interest because handling and transport become efficient, and regular monthly generation is a relationship that should be priced as one. Discuss grade separation, delivery schedule, freight responsibility, staged payment and weighment protocol up front. A difference of ₹1,000/MT on 50 MT is ₹50,000, so the twenty minutes spent getting two or three properly structured quotes is the best-paid work available to you.
