Steel Baba runs three connected operations: a free daily rate desk publishing India’s iron scrap and ingot prices, a buying operation sourcing from Indian yards and overseas exporters, and a licensed demolition contracting arm that dismantles structures and credits the recovered steel back against the job. The rate desk is what makes the other two honest – we value your material against a published market price, not a number we invented in the quotation.

What we do
Three parts of one trade.
Most sellers only learn the day’s price when the buyer tells them – by then the negotiation is over. We publish the number first, then trade and quote against that same published number.

Daily scrap rates
Iron scrap, MS, stainless and ingot rates for Jalna, Mandi Gobindgarh, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Punjab and Kerala. Published every working morning by 9:00 AM IST – free, no login, no paywall.
02 · The trade
Scrap buying & import
We buy from Indian yards and from exporters in the US, UK, EU, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. HMS 1 and 2, cast iron, MS, stainless, copper, aluminium, brass, turnings, shredded – 10 MT to 5,000 MT+, CIF, CFR or FOB into JNPT, Mundra, Kandla, Hazira and Chennai. PSIC, BIS and customs documentation supported.
03 · The site work
Building demolition
A licensed demolition contractor working across Maharashtra and on pan-India projects. Permits secured, utilities isolated and certified, asbestos cleared before machinery moves, and every tonne of recovered steel weighed on a certified bridge and credited against your invoice.
Why the three fit together
The same desk that prices the market prices your building.
On most demolition jobs the scrap is the largest unaudited number in the quotation. It leaves the site on a truck nobody weighed and it never appears on the invoice. Fifty tonnes of structural steel is real money.
We estimate recoverable tonnage at survey stage and show it as its own line in the quotation. Metals are cut and sorted by grade on site, weighed on a certified government bridge, and sold at the rate ruling that day. You get the weighbridge slips and the sale documentation.
That is only possible because we publish those rates publicly every morning. You can check our number against our own price list before you sign.

How a rate gets published
Our method, in the open.
These four steps run in order, every working day. Rates go live by 9:00 AM IST, Monday to Saturday; Sunday carries Friday’s rates forward, clearly labelled. When a market is quiet or the inputs disagree, we say so on the page rather than guess.
01 – Collect at source
Morning checks with furnace buyers, yard operators and transporters quoting real trades – not listing prices.
02 – Cross-check
Each quote is compared against the previous close and neighbouring markets. Outliers get a second call before printing.
03 – Publish 9 AM
Live before the trading day builds, so the number is in your hand before the buyer’s call comes.
04 – Explain the move
Sharp jumps get a reason. A number without context is how sellers get talked out of their margin.
Who we are
Steel people. Site people.
Two crews, one company. Our trading side has spent 15+ years buying, grading and weighing scrap, and handles overseas import documentation including PSIC, BIS and customs clearance. Our demolition side carries 30+ years on site, 952 structures brought down, and three lost-time incidents on record across all of it.
Machine operators are assigned by structure type rather than availability, and every demolition sequence is directed from the ground by a supervisor with an unobstructed view – never by the operator alone.
The published rates stay independent of the trading and contracting sides. We don’t take payment to move a printed rate, and we don’t sell your enquiry to a third party.
